Backpack Program for Kids

1/31/2012

Our Cookeville Branch is participating in the School Adopter Food Drive for Backpack Program and will be a drop off location for donated (kid-friendly) food. The program seeks to feed needy children of all ages (pre-schoolers through high school) who rely on school breakfast and lunch, but may not have enough food on weekends or school breaks.

They are planning to have the food distributed to the children on Friday, March 2, in order for the children to have their filled backpacks for their spring break that begins March 5. Therefore, from now until Feb 29 our Cookeville branch will be accepting child-friendly, nonperishable items that require little or no preparation. The following is a suggested list of items:

Pop-tarts

Juice Boxes

Individual Cereals

Canned Foods with Pop-Tops (spaghettios, ravioli, lasagna, etc.)

Ready-made box meals

Ramen Noodles

Oatmeal

Mac & Cheese

Chips, Snack Crackers

Fruit Roll-Ups

Raisins

Shelf-Stable Milk

Beanie Weenies

Small Bottles water

Fruit cups or apple sauce cups with pop-tops

If you’d like to make a donation please visit our Cookeville Branch at 1281 South Walnut Ave. Cookeville, TN 38501.
