TTCU Sponsors 26 Years of Scholastic Art Excellence
For the 26th consecutive year, Cheekwood is proud to host the regional competition and exhibition for Middle Tennessee Scholastic Art Awards, which celebrates art achievements by students in grades 7-12. The event was held at Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art, located at 1200 Forrest Park Drive in Nashville, TN.
Cheekwood extended special thanks to The Tennessee Credit Union, who has partnered to present The Scholastic Art Competition at Cheekwood for twenty-six years.
This year’s awards ceremony and reception was held Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. in Massey Auditorium. Artworks by Middle Tennessee’s Gold Key recipients will be on display in Cheekwood’s Frist Learning Center Courtyard Gallery Feb. 4 through March 5 before going on to be judged by the national panel in New York.
Be sure to make plans to visit the Gallery to view the art before March 5.
This year, 49 Middle Tennessee art students took home Gold Key awards, 99 Silver Key awards and 203 Honorable Mentions. Five students, Talia B., of University School of Nashville; Olivia D., a home school student; Grace H. of Hendersonville High; Jenna L. of Brentwood High School and Richard W. of Montgomery Bell Academy have each received an American Vision Award nomination.
One of the five will be chosen as a national finalist in the American Vision Award competition to be held in New York. Regional gold key recipients are eligible for scholarships and cash prizes, are part of the exhibition at Cheekwood, and have their work sent to New York City for national judging.
Education programs at Cheekwood are funded in part by HCA, Metro Nashville Arts Commission and Tennessee Arts Commission. Visit cheekwood.org to learn more.
